2018 Season - Week 20

BUMSBowl XXIII

After the NFC Championship game Mark led Daz 23-6 but he was outscored 46-18 in the second game as Daz scored the third highest total in the 23 year history of our postseason contest. Congrats to AP who makes the BUMSBowl for the first time but he left it very late, scoring 30 points in the final quarter of the AFC Championship game behind Damien Williams three TDs. The best team Mark and Craig could have selected would have put up 71 points for just $4.5m (Pat Mahomes 9pts $1m, Greg Zuerlein 14pts $1m, Damien Williams 18pts $0.5m, Rex Burkhead 12pts $0.5m, Sony Michel 12pts $1m and either Tyler Higbee or Phillip Dorsett 6pts $0.5m – Todd Gurley & Travis Kelce also scored a TD but they cost more). Mark and Craig didn’t, so it’s Daz against AP in BUMSBowl XXIII in 10 days. Teams need to be in by 2pm next Friday (Feb 1st) but remember first come first served with your favourite players, so be quick. Superbowl LIII What a couple of cracking Championship games we watched. Firstly in the NFC game, no one thought the Rams would win with MVP candidate Todd Gurley getting just 13 yards on 5 touches but after 3 early scores Wade Philips defense suffocated the Saints attack holding WR Michael Thomas to one catch for 9 yards through the rest of the game. And how about the cojones on Greg Zuerlein, making a 57 yard field goal to win it in overtime. But should the game have gone to OT? How did the officials miss that DPI on Robey-Coleman? For the first time ever both games went to overtime and after 10 consecutive victories for the home team in the Championship round, both away teams won. In an absolute classic the Patriots should have won the game by halftime as they completely dominated the first half. They controlled the clock for over 21 minutes, gaining 16 first downs to 3 with a 245 to 32 yards advantage. Yes you read that correctly Kansas City had just 32 yards offence through 30 minutes but due to Tom Brady’s goal-line interception the Patriots were ahead just 14-0. KC finally scored in the third quarter before the fourth quarter exploded for a Championship Game record 38 points, with contentious replay decisions and late heroics. In overtime the Chiefs defense (on the field for 44 minutes in total) were gassed and New England rolled all the way to the end zone completing a drive of 75 yards to go with their previous scoring drives of 80, 90, 8, 75 and 65 yards. The best offence in the NFL never got a chance to reply. All-BUMS Voting Don’t forget to vote for your favourite players of 2018, thanks to those who have already supplied them.
